How I Use Dropbox

dropboxDropbox is a fantastic tool for sharing and syncronising your files and yet very easy to use. Although there were some security issues last month I believe it is an amazing piece of software which can make your life much easier. I know there are many articles about useful tips (e.g. herehere,  and here), but I would like to share with you the way I use it every day.

I am sure you have noticed that many of the source files I use are stored on Dropbox. That's primarily for two reasons: I can synchronize my code between several computers or operating systems (I use both Linux and W7) and it's a wonderful way how to share some of the files with you (like the list of S&P 500 companies).

KeePass (or KeePassX) is another example of a diamond in the software ocean. I am using it heavily and in combination with Dropbox I can have my password database up-to-date on every computer I use (not only up-to-date but also a backup).

I have created a small file for easy re-installation of my Linux system, i.e. it's a shell script that will install every application/library/etc I use every day. By placing it on Dropbox I can share it with my friends, keep it updated and on hand every time I need it. Simple and powerful.

How do you use your Dropbox?

Good review – there are a few recent changes though:

You get 2GB of space with the FREE version, but now there is no restriction to the number of computers you can sync/backup (from 2).
It gives you the ability to upload and sync any folder on your computer.
It is the only service that offers such a broad device and OS support with apps for iPhone/iPad, Android, Blackberry, Symbian and WinMo.
On the Free version the upload/download is faster than when reviewed :)

Also if you use the below referral code you get 500MB extra on top of the Free 2GB or 16GB extra on any of the paid-for services!

    Hope it helps someone.
